2026 Artist in Residence: Sonia Rosa Kahn

We were delighted to welcome Sonia Rosa Kahn as our 2026 Henry Moore Foundation Artist in Residence.

During her residency, Sonia has been working with the Foundation’s photographic archive to engage directly with the lesser-known materials and processes that were part of Moore’s practice in the conceptualisation and documentation of his maquettes and sculptures. She has been producing a set of paper lithographs and wax-resist drawings, alongside a film installation reflecting on the relationship between sculpture, photography, and time, as material practices that shape space, memory, and form.

Sonia Rosa Kahn is a London-born, U.S.-based artist whose interdisciplinary practice combines moving image, printmaking and installation. Her work examines the reproduction of photographic images and their social and material lifespans. Through processes of erosion, oxidation, and chemical development, her alchemical interventions in both film and printed matter test the stability of pictures and narratives through time.

Awarded annually to a current or recent MFA student from the Yale School of Art, the Henry Moore Foundation Artist in Residence offers a unique, month-long opportunity to explore Henry Moore’s life and legacy at the artist’s former home in rural Hertfordshire.

“It was an incredibly enriching experience to get to know more about the true breadth and depth of Moore’s practice and life; staying on the grounds, amidst the work in its place of conception and realisation, was really special and inspirational to an emerging artist such as me. I felt like a sponge absorbing everything – and I know I will carry this experience with me, and that it will continue to inform my practice.”
