Chair of Henry Moore Foundation David Isaac CBE appointed to House of Lords

Henry Moore Foundation is pleased to announce that our Chair David Isaac CBE, is to be conferred with a life peerage by His Majesty The King.

His appointment to the House of Lords follows a nomination from the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer. He will be introduced to the House in the new year, where he will sit on the Labour benches as Baron Isaac of Abergavenny.

David Isaac CBE

David grew up in Abergavenny where he attended the local comprehensive school. He was the first member of his family to go to university, reading Law at Trinity Hall, Cambridge before undertaking postgraduate studies at Wolfson College, Oxford. David qualified as a solicitor and was a partner in Pinsent Masons LLP for many years, specialising in contract law and technology, as well as acting for HM Government and many FTSE 100 and 250 companies.

Throughout his career, David has advocated for the arts, human rights and education through his non-executive work. He chaired Modern Art Oxford for nearly two decades and is a former Chair of the Equality & Human Rights Commission (2016-20) and the charity Stonewall. He has also served as a trustee of the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, the Human Dignity Trust, the Big Lottery, and 14-18 NOW, which led the country’s artistic response to the commemoration of the First World War.

Alongside his duties as Chair of the Henry Moore Foundation, David is Provost of Worcester College, David also serves as Chair of Governors at University of the Arts London and as a trustee of Cumberland Lodge.

David was appointed a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours. In 2024 he was elected to an Honorary Fellowship at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge – Worcester’s sister institution.
