Hamish Basil Macpherson

This unique collection comprises several car drawings made by sculptor Hamish Basil Macpherson (1915-2005) while working in the motor industry in the 1950s.

About the artist

Hamish (Henry) Basil Macpherson (1915-2005) was a sculptor who trained at Central School of Arts and Crafts, London under John Skeaping (1901-80), from 1934-39. Following the Second World War he returned there to teach.

What’s in the collection?

This archive comprises seven beautifully stylistic car design drawings by Macpherson, made when he worked in the motor industry in the 1950s. These are important materials for tracking the work of sculptors within manufacturing and industry.

The archive is free to use, but visits must be booked in advance so that we can get items ready for viewing.

Visits can be booked Tuesday to Friday, 10:00–17:00.
