The Henry Moore Foundation is saddened to hear of the death of Tim Llewellyn, Director of the Foundation 1994 to 2007
Tim Llewellyn
1947–2025
Director of The Henry Moore Foundation 1994–2007
Tim Llewellyn joined the Henry Moore Foundation as Director in early 1994, following a distinguished career at Sotheby’s, where he honed his management skills and deep appreciation for both historical and contemporary art. Over his 13-year tenure, he left a lasting impact on the Foundation, his colleagues and the art world, both in the UK and internationally.
Under his leadership the Foundation and its reputation flourished. He played a pivotal role in the development of our headquarters in Perry Green, Hertfordshire, where his legacy included the construction of the Sheep Field Barn Gallery in 1999 and the development of a temporary library and archive. He collaborated closely with the Moore family to enable Moore’s home, Hoglands, to be restored and opened to the public. He supported the publication of several key books during his period as Director, most notably Celebrating Moore, and guided the Foundation through several international exhibitions: including projects in China, Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, Austria and the USA
Tim championed the Foundation’s transition into the digital age, overseeing the launch of our first interactive website, the initiation of a comprehensive artworks database and the digitisation of our extensive paper archives and photographic materials.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Tim’s family and friends.
