Looking ahead to Sagarika Sundaram: Reservoir, opening at the Institute on 30 September, this summer’s new acquisitions include artists whose work explores themes that resonate with the exhibition, including the body, landscape, memory, time, and materiality.

Among the selection are publications on Chiara Camoni (b.1974), whose figurative sculptures combine ceramics with dyed and woven fabrics; Ilana Halperin (b.1973), whose practice draws on natural materials to connect geology, deep time, and human experience; and Delcy Morelos (b.1967), who creates multisensory installations using earth, clay, fabric, and plant fibres to explore our relationship with the environment.

Also new in the library is a gift of catalogues from the estate of Bryan Kneale (1930-2025). Kneale is best known as an abstract sculptor whose work juxtaposes soft organic forms with hard, man-made ones using a wide range of materials. He curated the ground-breaking exhibition British Sculptors ’72 at the Royal Academy which was hugely important for the appreciation of contemporary sculpture.

The library is delighted to add to its existing research material on the artist, creating a more comprehensive collection that also includes in-depth oral history interviews from the National Life Stories, Artists’ Lives series.
