New library acquisitions: Winter 2023

Covers of the books 'Doris Salcedo' and 'Parviz Tanavoli : poets, locks, cages' side by side.

With a focus on artists featured in our recent exhibition The Weight of Words: Sculpture and Poetry, new library acquisition over winter include catalogues on contemporary sculptors Doris Salcedo and Parviz Tanavoli.

We are delighted to see many new publications about female sculptors. As well as books and catalogues we also add dissertations which discuss works in the Leeds Museums and Galleries’ sculpture and archive collections of British sculpture to the library, including prize-winning essays.

Also included in the list of acquisitions below is a slim catalogue and hand-written invitation to an exhibition in 1962 of the work of Charles Sansbury (1916-1989). Ephemeral items such as this are hugely important for research around less well documented artists and this example is a most welcome gift.
