What is the Henry Moore Archive?

Henry Moore once said of his sculpture: “Everything I do is intended to be big.” The same can be said of the legacy he has left us with.

With over three-quarters of a million items in our collection, the Henry Moore Archive is the world’s leading resource on Moore.

We support the public, students, academics and academic institutions, as well as cultural professionals in their explorations of Moore’s life and work.

Situated within the grounds of Henry Moore Studios & Gardens in Perry Green, Hertfordshire, our Reading Room provides a bright and welcoming space with views of the landscape that inspired the artist.

Henry Moore Archive Collections

The archive material is made up of twelve main collections. Of these, books, periodicals, exhibition and sale catalogues, significant press coverage, film and audio recordings are searchable online via the Henry Moore Archive catalogue.

Publications

Thousands of books, periodicals, auction catalogues and news articles document Moore’s life in detail. The archive also houses Moore’s personal collection of books.

Images, Film and Audio

Moore documented his work with photos at every stage, from conception to completion. The archive also contains hours of film and audio recordings produced during Moore’s lifetime.

Letters and Documents

The archive contains all sorts of fascinating insights into Moore’s life: discussions with galleries and artists, agreements with foundries, invites to exhibitions and more.
