Henry Moore Studios & Gardens in Hertfordshire is currently closed for winter, reopening in April 2025.

The Henry Moore Institute in Leeds is currently installing new exhibitions. The galleries will reopen from 22 November with The Traumatic Surreal. The library, archive and shop are open as normal.

Driving by car or coach

Getting to Studios & Gardens

We’re around a 20 minute drive from M11 (junction 8) and a similar distance from the A10.

For Sat Navs, our postcode is SG10 6EE.

There are several brown heritage signs signposting the route from Much Hadham and Bishop’s Stortford.

Coaches

We have parking spaces for coaches and minibuses in our main car park.

Due to the narrow lanes leading to our site, we have a coach length limit of 11 metres.

Parking

Free on-site parking

When you arrive, please park in the main visitor car park (Chestnuts), which is located across the road from the visitor centre.

If this car park is full, we have more parking available behind The Hoops Inn.

 

Accessible parking

We have accessible parking bays in all of our car parks.

Please display your blue badge when parking in an accessible parking space.

The nearest car park to the Visitor Centre is the Archive car park. Please follow the disabled parking sign off the village green to the main entrance.

Additional accessible parking bays can be found in the main visitor car park across the road from the main entrance and at The Hoops Inn.

Travel by train

Bishop’s Stortford

Our nearest station is Bishop’s Stortford, which has direct lines to London Liverpool St, Stansted Airport & Cambridge.

The station is around 15 minutes away by taxi. There is a taxi rank at the station, or book in advance with Associated Taxis on 01279 655666.

Harlow Town

Harlow Town, on the same train line at Bishop’s Stortford, is also close by: around 20-25 minutes by taxi.

This station is ideal if you would like to combine a visit to Studios & Gardens with a tour of Harlow’s extensive sculpture collection.

Ware

Another alternative, when travelling from London, is Ware. This station has direct services from London Liverpool Street and Tottenham Hale. A return ticket to Ware is cheaper than to other local stations. You can also use Oyster card or contactless payment to travel.

Ware is around 20 minutes away by taxi. There is a taxi rank at the station, or book in advance with Ware Taxis on 01920 465465.

By bus

No local services

We are located in a rural area and there is no public transport to Perry Green.

There is no bus service to Much Hadham from Stansted Airport.

Closest service

The nearest bus service, the local 35 bus from Bishop’s Stortford and Hertford, stops in Much Hadham and the village is approximately 40 minutes on foot from Perry Green, along hilly country lanes with no pavements for pedestrians.

Please note that the 35 is not a frequent service and service times may vary during the school holidays. Google maps will recommend a public transport route which includes the 35 bus from St Margaret’s Rail Station, we ask you to consider whether this is a practical route to take for your visit.

On foot and by bike

On foot

Several walking routes pass close by Studios & Gardens, including The Hertfordshire Way.

Plan a walking route by visiting footpathmap.co.uk and putting in our postcode: SG10 6EE.

Alternatively there is a well described circular route from Much Hadham on the Bishop’s Stortford and District Footpath Association website.

Getting here by bike

The local area is popular with cyclists and Perry Green is a pleasant ride from local towns.

Bicycles are permitted on off-peak trains from both London and Cambridge.

Cycle storage

We have recently installed a new bicycle rack in the Archive car park. To find the parking, please go past the visitor centre – the car park is on your right and the cycle racks are next to the disabled bays.

There is also a small bicycle rack in our main visitor car park, across the road from the visitor centre.

To protect our gardens, we do not allow bicycles inside Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, including children’s bikes and scooters.
