30th Birthday Competition: Redesign the front of the Henry Moore Institute

Henry Moore Studios & Gardens in Hertfordshire is currently closed for winter, reopening in April 2025.

The Henry Moore Institute in Leeds is currently installing new exhibitions. The galleries will reopen from 22 November with The Traumatic Surreal. The library, archive and shop are open as normal.

Henry Moore Institute is celebrating its 30^th Birthday.

Our building opened in April 1993 as a centre for the study of sculpture. Architects Jeremy Dixon and Edward Jones redesigned three existing offices to create the Institute, adding a black granite façade to the new front of the building.

Now you’re the designer. What would you do?

We want to see what you would do if you could redesign the front of our building. You could paint, draw or collage but remember, we’re all about sculpture, so make your design as 3D and sculptural as possible!

To enter, you can pick up one of our entry cards at the Institute, Fred Aldous, or other locations around Leeds, or download the template here. Create your design using whatever materials or methods you like, then upload an image of it here, or drop it in at our Welcome Desk. If you’re visiting the Institute, you can get creative with plasticine in our Family Alcove area and upload a photo as your entry!

Three winners from each age group will receive a £50/£30/£20 voucher for art supplies shop Fred Aldous. All entrants will receive a 20 % discount code for Fred Aldous.

1. The competition is open to anyone living in the UK, except employees of Henry Moore Foundation and their close relatives and anyone otherwise connected with the organisation or judging of the competition.

2. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.

3. By entering this competition you are indicating your agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.

4. Route to entry for the competition and details of how to enter are on our website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profiles and on display in the Institute.

5. Only one entry will be accepted per person. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified.

6. Closing date for entry will be midnight on Sunday 18 June 2023. After this date the no further entries to the competition will be considered.

7. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.

REDESIGN THE FRONT OF THE HENRY MOORE INSTITUTE

Henry Moore Institute is celebrating its 30th birthday. The building was opened in April 1993 as a centre for the study of sculpture with an art gallery and research library open to all.
Architects Jeremy Dixon and Edward Jones redesigned three existing offices to create the Institute, adding a black granite façade to the new front of the building on The Headrow in the centre of Leeds.

We want to see what you would do if you could redesign the front of our building. Use the outline of the building as your canvas to get creative. You could paint, draw, stick, print, but remember, we’re all about sculpture, so make your design as 3D and sculptural as possible!

There are prizes for three winners from each age group: 11 and under / 12–17 / 18+. We are looking for designs with creativity, innovation and originality.

9. Henry Moore Institute reserve the right to cancel or amend the competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control. Any changes to the competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by Henry Moore Institute.

10. Henry Moore Institute is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with this competition.

11. The prize is as follows:
There will be three winners from three different age groups – 11 and under / 12–17 / 18+ who will win either £50, £30, £20 worth of Fred Aldous vouchers to spend on art materials.

12. Winners will be chosen by members of the Henry Moore Institute team.

13. Winners will be notified by direct messaging on Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/email within a month of the closing date. If the winner cannot be contacted or does not claim the prize within 7 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.

14. Henry Moore Institute’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

15. The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by English law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England.

16. All entrants agree to the use of their name and entry in any publicity material. Any personal data relating to the winner or any other entrants will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation and will not be disclosed to a third party without the entrant’s prior consent.

17. The winners' names will be available 28 days after closing date by emailing the following address: competition@henry-moore.org

18. Entry into the competition will be deemed as acceptance of these terms and conditions.
