About this event

Dr Patrick Eyres will discuss the range of lost landscapes retrieved by the artist-illustrated New Arcadian Journal.

The talk will include the unrealised landscape installations of the ‘avant-gardener’, Ian Hamilton Finlay (1925-2006), that are featured in the current library display at the Henry Moore Institute. It will also include other artists’ gardens, lost following the death of their creators, as well as the NAJ’s retrieval of the presence and histories of 18th-century landscape gardens.

This event has been programmed alongside our current library display, The Lost Landscapes of Ian Hamilton Finlay.

About the speaker

Patrick Eyres has, since 1981, created 56 editions of the unique fine press New Arcadian Journal. There is a full set in the library of the Henry Moore Institute. He has also published extensively elsewhere, including Sculpture and The Garden (Ashgate/Henry Moore Foundation 2006, 2nd edn 2017).

Eyres has been involved in the restoration and interpretation of historical landscape gardens, and continues to advise on the conservation of Ian Hamilton Finlay’s internationally renowned garden at Little Sparta. He has served on the boards of numerous charitable trusts, including the Little Sparta Trust.
