Duel: Tracy Mackenna and Karla Sachse
Henry Moore Institute, Leeds
This event has passed
Duel is a collaborative project between the artists Tracy Mackenna and Karla Sachse, exploring the dialectics of presentation and representation, visibility and invisibility, presence and absence.
The two artists also share similar aesthetic practices, as well as an interest in work that expands its discursive boundaries beyond the gallery space.
Curated by Kerstin May, and initiated through meetings and discussions in the previous year, the exhibition is the result of five days of intensive work within Gallery 4 of the Henry Moore Institute.
Rather than a final conclusion, this exhibition offers a snapshot of the working process, an insight into the candour of the ongoing dialogue characteristic of collaborative projects.

‘More and Less’: The Early Work of Richard Long
Duel documents the results of Kerstin Mey’s Henry Moore Institute Fellowship, where she invited the artists Tracy Mackenna and Karla Sachse to respond to each other, within a given space, context and time frame.
For five days, Gallery 4 at the Institute became a laboratory, a receptive space, in which these artists ‘duelled’ through their working practices.
