Drop-in activity
Family Encounters
Studios & Gardens, Hertfordshire
Included in an annual ticket

Join us for drop-in making activities inspired by encounters with Moore’s work, designed for families to explore and create together.
Recommended for ages 5+ and their accompanying adults.
Activities
You might get messy in these sessions, so please do dress accordingly.
Family Ties
Take a collaborative approach to drawing! Using drawing materials attached to string, give up the idea of making a perfect image, and instead focus on making marks and shapes on a page to create an abstract and vibrant image.
Felt tip pens are a focus in these sessions, with resources available to see how Moore himself used these in his own work.
Flint Hunt & Sculpt
Join us to hunt for flint around the gardens; you will be given clues on where to look!
Bring your collection back to the activity table to make into mini sculptures, with the additional help of plasticine… you might just leave with your very own little Reclining Figure or Family Group!
Dress Up Like a Sculpture
Ever wondered what the sculptures in our grounds are thinking and feeling? These sessions might just help you find out!
Use the costumes and materials available to transform yourself into a sculpture for the day, and maybe take yourself for a walk around the grounds to see where you would be best placed.
Family Shape Portraits
In this family portrait session, we’ll use plasticine and other materials to simplify faces into shapes, leaving you with an abstract picture of your family member to take away with you.
Moore Mobiles
Join us in making hanging mobiles, inspired by shapes and objects that can be found around our site.
You might be inspired by Moore’s sculptures or a beautiful leaf; whatever you find interesting will help you to make a wonderful hanging encounter of Perry Green to treasure at home.
Pulp & Sculpt
This sculpting session provides a gluey paper pulp as a material to sculpt with. You can use the paper pulp to make your own piece to take away, inspired by Moore and your time around the Studios & Gardens.
Flint Families
Come along and play with flint and various sculpting materials to make your very own little stone family.
Flint, Pulp & Sculpt
Combining two previous making activities, we’ll create sculptures by combining a mixture of gluey paper pulp with flint stones, resulting in a mixed-media piece you can take home.
Family Trees
Collect twigs and sticks from around the grounds to use to create the base of a sculpture. We’ll then use clay to build upon this structure.
Gouache with Grandparents
Come along and put your painting skills to the test on National Grandparents Day!
In this inter-generational activity we’ll be using gouache, a versatile medium that can be used on a variety of surfaces.
