Family workshop: Weaving Words

10:00–12:00 and 13:30–15:30

Henry Moore Institute, Leeds

This event has passed

Join artist Mia Mai Symonds to play with words and fabric to remix t-shirts! Use fabric pens to create your own slogans and poetry then hack them up to make a woven artwork.

Experiment with words and fabric in this free workshop. You’ll learn weaving techniques to deconstruct and reconstruct unwanted t-shirts, making new meanings. This activity is inspired by the work of Shanzhai Lyric in our exhibition The Weight of Words, and Mia’s own practice.

First we’ll take a guided tour of the exhibition, learning about the artworks and gathering inspiration for your own making. Then we’ll use unwanted t shirts, fabric pens and weaving processes to make and un-make, and write and un-write, to transform words and materials into something new!
