About our refurbishment

The Institute has been closed since November 2023 for the first significant refurbishment in our thirty-year history. Working with Leeds-based Group Ginger architects, the renovations have focused on creating more welcoming spaces for visitors, with enhanced events, creativity and meeting spaces.

We are excited to be reopening with new multifunctional learning and engagement facilities where we will host creative workshops, discussions and events and encourage people of all ages to engage with sculpture as learners, thinkers and makers. We have created a meeting point in the entrance so visitors can now take a seat and browse the enhanced shop.

Sustainability is at the heart of the project and we are delighted to have repurposed and reused materials and furniture, as well as installing solar panels on our new roof.

The bridge linking us with Leeds Art Gallery is also reopening for the first time since 2020.
