Included in an annual ticket, booking necessary

Join Cella Collective to explore ideas about bio-based materials, their life cycles and scale. Build a squeezed and stacked structure of your own.
Starting at the scale of a cell, this workshop will explore how organic materials look, feel and transform throughout their life cycles.
In a place where Henry Moore once worked, use a range of natural objects such as stones, bark or bone sourced in our rural surroundings, to design and build new environments for these sculpture-like objects. Be inspired by their cellular patterns or the landscape they’ve been nestled in.
Using clay, sand and gravel, you’ll experiment with extruding and squeezing columns, bricks and architectural components, combined to form walls, openings or even plinths. Take time to talk with the collective to seek conversational advice on how you might use these techniques for personal projects; whether you’ve got a bio-based build, artistic outcome, or curiosity to cultivate in your garden or home.
Contributing to conversations is optional, but all participants will get to take away their material research and experimental make.
Suitable for adults and young people aged 16+
This workshop is part of our Inspiration, Sculpture and Our Natural world season.

About Cella Collective
Cella is a collective of young makers exploring architecture, design, material research, and ecology through building, teaching, and writing. We engage with social issues through the lens of localism: materials, communities, and their landscapes.
Our field-based approach to architecture looks to learn from inclusive practices to collaboratively develop design proposals. We are interested in challenging existing systems, proposing alternatives, and mapping out architectural, ecological, material and educational changes which drive transformation from the bottom up.
Previous workshops have focused on material reuse and cycles: exploring the limits of cob, or more recently processing and extruding with London waste clay.
