A collection of wooden objects that have all been 'decorated' with different patterns of black lines, burnt by the sun.

Join archivist Errin Hussey to take a closer look at the Archive of Roger Ackling.

Roger Ackling kept detailed personal and professional records throughout his life. His archive contains a wealth of information about his process, working methods and exhibitions. Alongside this are records relating to his early student work, poetry, photography, teaching and travels. A selection of these items are currently on show in SUNLIGHT: Roger Ackling.

This tour will give an introduction to the collections of the Archive of Sculptors’ Papers, and allow you to get hands-on with Ackling’s records. We’ll look at how his ideas, processes and inspirations developed throughout his life, with a chance to see sketchbooks, photographs, travel journals and so much more. Exploring Ackling’s archive opens up a whole new understanding of the artist and his incredible work.

Both sessions will feature the same content and cover the same topics.

Accessibility

This event takes place in the library, on the first floor of the Institute. You’ll have the opportunity to sit down for the introduction and throughout, but you can also walk around and explore the material set out on the tables.

We want to make it as easy as possible for all to attend, so please get in touch if you have any access needs that you would like to discuss before the workshop.

Accessibility

Step-free access

We have an accessible entrance via lift (doors 100cm wide) on Cookridge Street, bringing you onto the ground floor of the building.

The library is on the first floor of the building, served by a passenger lift (doors 72cm wide), which goes to all floors of the building.

Toilets

We have three gender-neutral superloos (self-contained cubicles with a toilet and sink) on the basement level, accessible by lift.

Additionally, we have one gender-neutral, accessible superloo, and one superloo with baby changing facilities.

Lockers

There are lockers at the library reception, suitable for bags and smaller items.
