About this activity

Have you ever wanted to have a go at carving your own sculpture? Well now is your chance – but with a twist!

We will be collaboratively carving into plaster blocks, regularly swapping with other carvers to then continue their work.

See how the sculptures evolve throughout the day, each totally unplanned as multiple people will have worked on them as a team to create something truly unique.

Tickets

Entry is included in an annual ticket. This event is drop-in, so there’s no need to book. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  • If you already have an annual ticket, just come along on the day and bring your annual ticket with you.
  • If you don’t have an annual ticket, you can buy one online or from the ticket desk when you arrive.

An annual ticket lets you return to Studios & Gardens as often as you like, during open season, for 12 calendar months.

Safety & accessibility

Children must be accompanied by adults, to ensure the safe use of the materials on offer during these sessions.

These sessions are suggested at ages 4+, however younger visitors may also take part at their guardians’ discretion. The sessions are widely self-led and so designed with all ages and abilities in mind.

Activities can be altered based on the needs of the participant. Please speak to a member of staff in the Learning Studios to request any necessary adjustments.

You might get messy in these sessions, so please don’t wear your best clothes! Sturdy footwear is recommended.

This workshop is subject to availability of materials and space in the Sheep Field Barn. Workshops are frequently busy, so we advise arriving early to not miss out.

Last entry is 30 minutes before the activity closes.

The Art and Life of Henry Moore

This exhibition in the newly-opened Sheep Field Barn Gallery presents over eighty sculptures made between 1922 and 1986, alongside photographs and archival materials from the Henry Moore Foundation Collections.

Our special display for 2026 focuses on Moore’s Shelter Drawings. Created during the Second World War, they are among the most powerful and widely recognised works of Moore’s career.

We’re located just 27 miles north of London in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside.

Our 2026 visitor season runs from 1 April to 25 October. We’re open Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00–17:00.

Plan your visit – Studios & Gardens
A large bronze sculpture made of three parts, sited in a woodland clearing. The two larger parts surround the small on on two sides, acting like a shell or shelter.

Roadworks are currently affecting routes to Henry Moore Studios & Gardens that travel through Green Tye. Access via Bourne Lane or Stansted Hill is unaffected.
