Drop-in drawing activity

Sketching Sculptures: Locking Piece

14:00–15:00

Sculpture Gardens

Studios & Gardens, Hertfordshire

Included in an annual ticket

A large, abstract white sculpture, looking somewhat similar to vertebral bones, seen through a gap between two trees.

About this activity

Join us each month for a drawing workshop that encourages us to look at the different shapes, negative spaces and textures of Moore’s sculptures.

Henry Moore liked his sculptures to be viewed from every angle. Do they have a clear front and back? Is there a specific way they should be interpreted?

In this drop-in workshop, there will be twelve chairs set up around a sculpture. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. You’ll switch chairs every ten minutes, giving you different perspectives of the sculpture to create new drawings.

Additional visitors are welcome if you’re happy to stand and draw, or sit on the grass. Pop-up stools are also available in the visitor centre.

We’ll provide drawing materials and drawing boards, but you’re also welcome to bring your own materials.

Tickets

Entry is included in an annual ticket. This event is drop-in, so there’s no need to book. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  • If you already have an annual ticket, just come along on the day and bring your annual ticket with you.
  • If you don’t have an annual ticket, you can buy one online or from the ticket desk when you arrive.

An annual ticket lets you return to Studios & Gardens as often as you like, during open season, for 12 calendar months.
